Making Building Design’s Top 50 UK Green Leaders at number 49, Justin has been recognised by his industry peers as an early leader in the adoption of the Passivhaus standard in the UK, with his work on affordable Passivhaus standard homes noted as “promising to be particularly valuable”.
Recognising not only the high quality design work of the architects included in the list, it also takes into account the energy with which they have tried to engage the rest of the profession and the wider public with the sustainability cause. Justin’s own personal energy, enthusiasm and commitment are certainly qualities in abundance that he brings to the sustainability agenda.
Honoured to make the list alongside the five other architects nominated (including fellow passivhaus architect, Jonathan Hines) Justin commented, “ The nomination came as a surprise. There are many others who I feel deserve to be on this list at least as much as me. Nevertheless I feel deeply honoured by this kind gesture.”
The remaining forty five leaders listed were taken from the worlds of engineering, politics, campaigning, scientific research and property developing. This Top 50 list has been published a couple of weeks before Ecobuild, where Justin and many others featured will be contributing to seminars. As the UK faces up to the epic challenge of reducing its carbon emissions by 80% by 2050, the sustainability agenda is unlikely to remain static for long, but for today these are Building Design’s “faces to watch.”
