Sarah Lewis
Who we are

While studying at the Mackintosh School of Architecture (2001-2007) Sarah developed her interest in low energy architecture and went on to write a dissertation on the Passivhaus design standard and its relevance to British Architecture. She has always had a strong interest in how sustainable design practices can be incorporated in all levels of architecture. After studying at the Mackintosh, she travelled to Nepal to work with a local NGO to deliver a school building. Sarah joined bere:architects in 2008, after being introduced through a shared interest in Passivhaus work. She became ARB registered and an Associate Director at bere:architects in 2009 and a Director in 2011. In 2010 Sarah qualified as a Certified European Passivhaus Designer after the successful completion of the Camden Passivhaus, London’s first Passivhaus, of which she was project Architect. Sarah has lectured and been a guest critic at a number of architecture schools and spoken at Conferences including the International Passivhaus Conference in Innsbruck, 2011. Growing up on the east coast of Scotland Sarah has always been a keen sailor competing at both local and national levels and is a qualified sailing instructor. Spending time in the Scottish Highlands fed her interest in hill walking and in 2007 she completed the Himalaya Annapurna Circuit, unaided and without a guide. Since moving to London Sarah has taken up the more urban pursuits of cycling and running and in 2010 she competed in the Paris Marathon. Sarah is also a keen amateur potter and has recently started a number of knitting projects with a local knitting group.
