Maiia Guermanova
Who we are

Maiia joined bere:architects shortly after completing her Diploma at the Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London. After graduation, Maiia travelled to Tanzania to trek up Kilimanjaro to raise money for a charity supporting carers of dementia patients, having enjoyed many long distance cycling trips as part of her training program.
Maiia began her architecture training at Cambridge University, where she met many driven environmentalists and developed a keen interest for eco-design. At Cambridge Maiia divided her time between her studies and workshops, life drawing sessions and her many sporting activities, captaining her college women’s football team as well as participating in rugby, badminton, squash and volleyball tournaments.
Maiia greatly enjoys the outdoors and was introduced to subsistence farming through her family owned ‘dacha’, a self-built, low-energy dwelling and allotment patch in the Russian countryside and, from an early age this instilled in her a passion for self-build and considered recycling of materials. Since joining the office, Maiia has introduced us to her unique ‘Russian style’ tea drinking habits - daily enjoying her cuppa with jam!
